A
message from Mike Skala
Thank you for visiting my web site. I created this site so the
people I want to serve can learn about my previous accomplishments and
also about my goals for the future of McHenry County. As you can see, I
have set this site up to be interactive. Please use the “Contact/Help Mike” link on this
page. Let me know what you like about McHenry County. Let me know what
you don’t like. Tell me how you think the county should best go about
improving the quality of life for its residents. I will do my best to
respond to all correspondences in a reasonable timeframe.
I have been a
public servant for 14 years as a member and as President of the District
158 Board of Education. In that role I have been an advocate for the
families and taxpayers in Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Lakewood
and Union. I have worked very hard to balance what is best for students
with what is best for taxpayers. Whether I am working with board
colleagues, listening to residents who have concerns, or working
collaboratively with local municipal and county leaders, I have always
done my best to make this part of McHenry County the best it can be. To
that end, I believe the skills I utilized in helping District 158 become
the high achieving district it is today can also be used to help keep
McHenry County a desirable place to live, work and raise a family.
I also own a small business
with offices in Huntley and Woodstock. These last few years have been
very difficult and I am keenly aware that business owners are having a
hard time meeting financial obligations with a decreasing amount of money
coming in. Just as members of the private sector have had to decrease
their spending, I believe there are ways that McHenry County can cut
spending and lessen the burden on the taxpayers without sacrificing the
quality of service that we have all come to expect and enjoy.
I have accomplished a great
deal during my time on the District 158 board and am looking forward to
taking this exciting next step in public service life. I would appreciate
your vote on March 20.
